I am often encouraged to seek balance in life—a little less of this and a little more of that.

For instance in my actions,

  • speaking too much truth with not enough love, or
  • loving without speaking enough truth.

Other times it’s a battle between my heart and mind such as Devotion vs Doctrine.

  • Too much devotion and not enough doctrine, or
  • Too much doctrine with not enough devotion.

Yet to seek righteousness rather than “being right” I must bring both my mind and my heart into sync with Jesus.

The apostle Paul helps me see the importance of an integrated life by saying in Colossians 3.

…set your hearts on things above, where Christ is… (verse 1)

…Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (verse 2)

When the passions of my heart and my mind are set on Jesus, all the rest falls out into a holistic integrated life with just the right “amount” of this or that.
